Lewis Capaldi has revealed that he almost scrapped his chart-topping, record-breaking song Someone You Loved early on as he didn't think it was good enough.

The 22-year-old Scottish star's breakthrough single is Ireland's biggest song of 2019 so far, with Someone You Loved topping the singles chart for six weeks and becoming the most downloaded and streamed song of the first six months of the year.

Despite the song's success, and its seven-week reign at the top spot in the UK charts, Capaldi didn't have much faith in it early on.

"With Someone You Loved I wrote the melodies for it and then I was like, 'oh f***, this is not good enough' and then I completely stopped working on it," he told The Daily Star.

"And I kept revisiting it over the months and still thinking, 'this isn't good enough still', and I was almost trashing the song every single time."

Someone You Loved was recently covered by the Jonas Brothers in for BBC Radio One's Live Lounge, and Capaldi and he took to Instagram with a series of hilarious stories and posts to mark the occasion.

"Defining moments in my career, right. First single release, selling out the arena tour, number one album, number one single... all mean f***ing nothing compared to the fact the Jonas Brothers just covered my f***ing tune. My tune," he laughed.
