Danny Boyle, who had been set to direct the upcoming Bond film until he quit last year, has said Robert Pattinson should be the next James Bond.
The Trainspotting and Slumdog Millionnaire director exited Bond 25 in August 2018 citing "creative differences". He later confirmed a script dispute was the reason he departed.
In a new interview, Boyle has said he has put Bond behind him, but is reminded of it every so often.
He told The Guardian he saw Pattinson's new science fiction film High Life, adding: "And it was so bizarre, because I was sitting there thinking: 'Oh my God, they should get him to be the next Bond.'"
When asked if the former Twilight star was too young to play 007, Boyle replied: "No, no. He must be in his 30s. How old was Connery?
"He's ready now."
Robert Pattinson is indeed in his 30s, he was 33 on May 13 this year. Sean Connery was 32 when he played 007 in the first Bond movie, Dr. No, in 1962.

Oscar-winning filmmaker Boyle had been working on a screenplay for the upcoming Bond instalment with John Hodge, who also worked on Trainspotting.
Boyle previously revealed that their draft of the screenplay didn't go down well with producers, explaining: "What John [Hodge] and I were doing, I thought, was really good. It wasn't finished, but it could have been really good.
"We were working very, very well, but they didn't want to go down that route with us. So we decided to part company."
