Richard E. Grant has said that the "creative differences" that led to Julie Anne Moore and Chris O'Dowd being replaced by Melissa McCarthy and Richard E Grant in Can You Ever Forgive Me were over the actress wishing to wear a fat suit and prosthetic nose.
Speaking at Advertising Week Europe the Withnail And I Star said "Julianne Moore wanted to wear a fat suit and a false nose to play Lee Israel and screenwriter Nicole Holofcener said, ‘You’re not going to do that."’
Last week, Hollywood Reporter said that Holofcener disapproved of Moore’s desire to sport a false nose to look more like the real Israel, while Holofcener felt it would be "distracting".
Speaking about the recasting at the Oscar Wilde Awards, Chris O'Dowd said: "What a heartbreak. We were ready to go, it was myself and Julianne Moore, and we had moved to New York, and maybe two days before we started filming, there was some creative differences that I wasn't really involved in.
"I was surprised, that the film wasn't going ahead at the last minute. But Richard's (Richard E Grant) performance in it is so wonderful, that it feels like it was kind of meant to be."
