Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke says she shed tears recording her final scenes and reveals she walked around London for three hours after being handed the scripts for the last instalment.

The 32-year-old actress, who plays Daenerys Targaryen on the hit HBO show, which is set to air its final series next month, said she strolled around "aimlessly" after receiving her closing lines.

"It might as well have been raining and I would’ve just walked in it not knowing what to do," she told PA.

There were "loads of tears" filming her last words, she said, adding: "That was the moment I realised that alcohol can also be a depressant.

"I was kind of nursing a glass of wine going, ‘I don’t know why I’m not getting any happier from this!'"

Last week, a new trailer for the final season of fantasy epic was released and it hints at the dramatic climatic battle between the living and the White Walkers, led by the menacing Night’s King.

As Jon Snow warns, "Our enemy doesn’t tire, doesn’t stop, doesn’t feel."

The eighth and final season of the show starts on Sky Atlantic on April 15, airing at 2am and 9pm, and runs for six weeks.

The battle for Winterfell, which is said to be the longest and most expensive consecutive battle sequence ever committed to film, will feature heavily in the new season.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the show’s creators and crew discussed how difficult the sequence was to film.

Maisie Williams, who plays Arya, said, "where you’re just broken as a human and just want to cry." Ian Glen, who plays Jorah Mormont, claimed that it was "the most unpleasant experience I’ve had on Thrones".
