Luke Perry, best known for roles on Beverly Hills, 90210 and Riverdale, has died aged 52 after suffering a stroke.
The actor's death was confirmed by his publicist Arnold Robinston.
In a statement Mr Robinson said: "The family appreciates the outpouring of support and prayers that have been extended to Luke from around the world, and respectfully request privacy in this time of great mourning.
"No further details will be released at this time".
Last Wednesday, US media reported that paramedics had been called to the actor's home in Sherman Oaks.
At the time a spokesman for Perry told the Press Association that he was "currently under observation at the hospital."
Perry is best known for playing Dylan McKay in the teen show Beverly Hills,90210 and was currently starring as Archie's father Fred Andrews in Riverdale.The actor is survived by his son Jack, 21, and daughter Sophie, 18, from his marriage to ex-wife Rachel Sharp.

It was recently confirmed that the cast of Beverly Hills, 90210 will reunite for a reboot of the 90s hit.
Perry hadn't been confirmed for the new series, but Jason Priestley, Jennie Garth, Brian Austin Green, Tori Spelling and Ian Ziering have all signed on to the show.
