Brian McFadden has opened up about his dramatic Dancing on Ice fall that cost him a place in the show's finale on Sunday.

The former Westlife star was sent home from the competition after he and his professional dance partner Alex Murphy suffered a fall during the skate-off.

Speaking to This Morning, McFadden explained to presenters Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby what caused them to tumble on the ice.

"It was really strange, because the skate-off was probably one of my favourite moments that we've had so far," he said.

"I remember in the middle of it just thinking to myself, 'I'm really enjoying it. I love it'. I was thinking to myself this is probably the best we've ever skated."

However, the singer revealed that he got his feet mixed up ahead of the pivotal lift.

"When I came around the corner, we've done that lift already [earlier] in the night, but we did it the other way. So when we came around the corner, I looked at my feet and I was like, 'Are my feet supposed to be like that or like that?'," he said.

"And then I went, 'Just do it. Just lift her'. So you kind of forget your own skates. So I leaned to try and pick her up. And when you lean on a skate, your skate just comes out the back."

He added: "That whole thing was so slow for me... As soon as I hit the ground, straight away in my head I went, 'That's it. We're done. The show is over for us'. That was the hardest part."

After his elimination, the Irish singer took to Twitter to thank everyone who voted for him and Murphy.

The Dancing on Ice final airs next Sunday on ITV.
