Liam Hemsworth has revealed that his wedding to Miley Cyrus was "spur-of-the-moment" and said that married life is "wonderful".

The couple made their first pubic appearance as newlyweds at G’Day USA Gala in Los Angeles, where Hemsworth said their December wedding wasn't hard to organise.

He told Extra on the red carpet: "It wasn't hard - we have a small group of friends. It was mainly immediate family, a spur-of-the-moment sort of thing.

"I'm very happy to be where I am."

When asked how married life is treating him he said "the same but different" as they've been together for so long, explaining: "We’ve been together for the better part of 10 years."

The actor gushed of his new wife: "It’s all wonderful and I feel very lucky to be with her."

Hemsworth also had some sweet words for his new wife while onstage accepting his award gala, saying: "Thank you to my beautiful wife. You are a sweet, sweet angel. You're great."

The couple first met on the set of Nicholas Sparks’ 2010 romantic drama, The Last Song.
