Liam Hemsworth has opened up about his recent wedding to Miley Cyrus saying he feels ''very lucky'' to call the singer his wife.

The 29-year-old Hunger Games actor and the 26-year-old singer wed in a small ceremony in Tennessee in December.

Hemsworth says he is overjoyed to have tied the knot with his best friend and has dubbed married life ''the best''.

Asked how he is enjoying married life, he told Entertainment Tonight: ''It's the best. It's the best. I feel so lucky to be with someone like her. It's great. Very lucky.''

The couple, who first met on the set of Nicholas Sparks’ 2010 drama, The Last Song, have been in an on-off relationship that saw the 28-year-old Australian actor propose to Cyrus in 2012. However, they split up again a year later and reconnected in 2015.

In November, Hemsworth said he had a "heartbreaking" few days after losing the home in the wildfires that ravaged California.

The actor posted a picture of the blackened shell of his home on Instagram, while showing a sign that spells out "love" which survived the blaze.

He wrote: "It's been a heartbreaking few days. This is what's left of my house. Love. Many people in Malibu and surrounding areas in California have lost their homes also and my heart goes out to everyone who was affected by these fires.

"I spent the day in Malibu yesterday and it was amazing to see the community pulling together to help each other out in any way they can. Malibu is a strong community and this event is only going to make it stronger."

He added: "Thankful for the all the great local guys that helped keep smaller fires out around my property. I love u guys. I love you Malibu. Thank you to all the hero firefighters around California. It's going to be a journey to rebuild. Stay strong all."
