Absolutely Fabulous actress June Whitfield dies

Actress June Whitfield, best known for her roles in Terry and June, the Carry On films, EastEnders, and Absolutely Fabulous, has died at the age of 93.

She began her career in the 1950s in radio and television. Her son in law said that she had spent Christmas with her family but had died in her sleep on Friday night.

She is survived by her actress daughter Suzy Aitchison, her chartered surveyor husband of 46 years died 17 years ago.

Whitfield also featured in 2016's Absolutely Fabulous movie as the scatty mother, continuing the role she played so well in the '90s television show.

Jennifer Saunders paid tribute to the veteran actress. In a statement to the Press Association, she said: "It's so tremendously sad to lose June. I will always be grateful that she agreed to be in Ab Fab and even more grateful that she became a dear friend.

"She lived and worked with an extraordinary grace. Everything June did was perfectly measured. She was so loved and I will miss her hugely."
