David Beckham has opened up about his marriage to Victoria Beckham in a new interview on Australian television, saying: "To be married for the amount of time that we have, you know, it's always hard work."
Beckham makes his comments in an interview with The Project which airs this Sunday in Australia.
He tells presenter Lisa Wilkinson that after so many years together as a couple it "becomes a little bit more complicated".
Last month, Victoria Beckham said she and her husband have learned to ignore "the nonsense" written about their marriage.
The former Spice Girl said people have been gossiping about their relationship since they became a couple.
Victoria Beckham, who married David in 1999, told Vogue magazine: "People have been making things up about our relationship for 20 years, so David and I are pretty used to ignoring the nonsense and just carrying on as normal.
"But these things have a wider effect on the people around us, and that's unfair."
"We both realise that we are stronger together than we are as individuals," she added.
During the summer the couple denied speculation that they were to divorce, saying the rumours were "very bizarre" and "an embarrassing waste of time".
Victoria and David Beckham first met 21 years ago at a charity football match.
They married in a lavish wedding ceremony in July 1999 in Luttrellstown Castle in Dublin.
The couple share three sons and a daughter together: 19-year-old Brooklyn, 16-year-old Romeo, 13-year-old Cruz and Harper, aged seven.
