Ariana Grande and her fiancé Pete Davidson have reportedly broken up and called off their engagement, according to multiple US media outlets.

The popstar and comedian, who have had a whirlwind romance since beginning to date in May of this year, parted ways at the weekend, celebrity website TMZ first reported.

Sources told the website that the decision to split was mutual and that they both felt it was "not the right time for their relationship to take off."

People magazine subsequently reported that a Grande source told them the couple decided to split as it was "way too much too soon".

"It’s not shocking to anyone", they added.

Neither Grande nor Davidson have commented publicly on the reports.

The news of the couple's split comes after a difficult period for Grande following the sudden death of her former boyfriend, the rapper Mac Miller in September.

The singer has also suffered from PTSD since the terrorist bombing at her concert in Manchester in 2017.

Ariana Grande is taking time off "to heal and mend"

In September, Grande's team revealed that she was taking some time off.

In a statement to People, her team said: "Given the events of the past couple of years, Ariana is going to take some much needed time to heal and mend.

"She will be staying close to home and using this period to spend time with her loved ones and work on new music without deadline. She thanks her fans for their understanding."

Grande and Davidson began dating in May of this year and became engaged in June

The God Is A Woman star and Saturday Night Live comedian have known each other since Grande hosted an episode of SNL in 2016.

They started dating in May of this year and confirmed their engagement in June after only a few weeks together.

In September, Davidson spoke about his relationship with Grande, saying they are "supposed to be together".
