It has been announced that True Detective director Cary Joji Fukunaga will helm the next James Bond adventure.

The announcement was made on Thursday morning that the 25th outing in the 007 franchise will begin filming at Pinewood Studios in the UK on March 4, 2019.

The Daniel Craig-starring film will be released on February 14, 2020.

"We are delighted to be working with Cary," said Bond producers Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli. "His versatility and innovation make him an excellent choice for our next James Bond adventure."

The American filmmaker replaces Trainspotting director Danny Boyle, who left the project last month due to "creative differences".

Fukunaga's other credits include the Idris Elba-starring film Beasts of No Nation and the new Emma Stone and Jonah Hill-starring Netflix series Maniac.
