The mother of singer Demi Lovato has said the 26-year-old is "happy" and "healthy" as she continues her recovery from a suspected drugs overdose.

Lovato was rushed to hospital in July and later told fans on Instagram that she had learned that addiction is "not something that disappears or fades with time".

In an interview on American channel Newsmax TV, Lovato's mother, Dianna De La Garza, said her daughter is "doing really well" in her recovery.

"She's happy. She's healthy," De La Garza continued.

"She's working on her sobriety, and she's getting the help she needs. That in itself encourages me about her future and about the future of our family."
