Irish acting greats Liam Neeson and Brendan Gleeson have teamed up for The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, a six-part western anthology film for Netflix.

It has been written and directed by the inimitable Joel and Ethan Coen and comprises a series of tales about the American frontier.

Judging by the first official trailer which has just been released, the Coen Brothers are on fine form, with plenty of wise-cracking, lush cinematography and black humour on display.

As well as Neeson and Gleeson, The Ballad of Buster Scruggs also stars James Franco, Tim Blake Nelson, Tom Waits and Zoe Kazan.

The six-parter, which was first reported to be in the works in January 2017, will premiere on Netflix on November 16.

The Coen brothers are no strangers to the western genre, having released the acclaimed No Country for Old Men in 2007 and True Grit in 2010.
