The new, World Cup-themed Doctor Who teaser trailer has premiered, with fans promised "new friends and new adventures" for the new Doctor, Jodie Whittaker.
Almost a year to the day since Whittaker's casting was announced, BBC One premiered the trailer during Sunday's World Cup Final.

The channel used its football pundits Alan Shearer and Rio Ferdinand to whet viewers' appetites for the show's return, while unexplained phenomena played out onscreen.
"They've got the makings of a really strong team," said Ferdinand, with fans getting their introduction to Whitaker's new Doctor Who co-stars, Tosin Cole, Mandip Gill and Bradley Walsh.

"They've got great energy, great flair, and that's what people are talking about. I'm really excited to see what happens."

Broadchurch star Whittaker's tenure as the 13th Time Lord began with her cameo in last year's Doctor Who Christmas Special, Twice Upon a Time.
Her debut, 10-week season of Doctor Who will begin on BBC One in the Autumn.
Whittaker, whose credits also include Trust Me, Venus and Good Vibrations, has described it as "more than an honour" to be playing the Doctor.
"It means remembering everyone I used to be," she told the BBC, "while stepping forward to embrace everything the Doctor stands for: hope."
