Today's picks include Lethal Weapon, Taskmaster and a tribute to legendary BBC sports commentator Barry Davies...

Pick of the day

Lethal Weapon, 9.00pm, RTÉ 2

Here's another double bill of cop-tastic action, based on the film of the same name and starring Damon Wayans and Clayne Crawford as mismatched detectives Roger Murtaugh and Martin Riggs.

First up, the partners investigate a surfer’s death, Murtaugh grows suspicious of Trish’s new friend and Riggs has violent nightmares.

Later, Riggs and Murtaugh are led into the mob world as they investigate a murder in a hospital and Murtaugh learns that Riana is secretly dating his neighbour.

New or Returning Shows

This is Us, 9.00pm, More4

Already up and running on RTÉ One, this superb empathy-fest about run-of-the mill American clan the Pearsons returns for a second season.

Opening as the three siblings their 37th birthdays, Randall and Beth debate a huge life change, Kate takes the first steps in pursuing a new passion, while Kevin balances the demands of his career and relationship.

Meanwhile, parents Jack and Rebecca deal with the fallout from their big fight at the end of season one.

The South Bank Sky Arts Awards, 8.00pm, Sky Arts

Melvyn Bragg is master of ceremonies as The South Bank Sky Arts Awards returns to The Savoy Hotel in London to shine a light on the outstanding achievers in the arts.

Last year’s winners include BBC comedy Fleabag, novelist Rose Tremain and the English National Ballet, and 2018 is set to highlight even more of the outstanding artistic talents across the UK, from Philip Pullman and Stormzy to films such as Dunkirk and Paddington 2.

Ending Tonight

Mr Robot, 10.55pm, TG4

Fair play to TG4, in the run-up to the start of season three they've repeated the first two seasons of this exceptional show about a programmer who works as a cyber-security engineer by day and a vigilante hacker by night.

Tonight brings Irish viewers up to speed, with the final two episodes from the dizzying second season. First up, there are the repercussions to the shooting in a previous episode, and then later Tyrell brings Elliot up to speed, while Darlene is interrogated by the FBI.

Taskmaster, 9.00pm, Dave

Dave's daft game show comes to an end. Well, for now anyway. As the Taskmaster, Greg Davies sets a series of stupefying tasks to a group of comedians with Alex Horne assisting as his right-hand man.

This week's guests include Tim Vine – probably best known for his role as Lucy's brother Tim on Not Going Out – and Liza Tarbuck, who's been a perennial presence on TV for decades.

Don't Miss

Barry Davies: The Man, The Voice, The Legend, 11.10pm, BBC One

Sue Barker - otherwise busy today at Wimbledon - meets legendary British sports commentator Barry Davies to reflect on his outstanding career that spanned more than 50 years at the BBC.

As he takes the microphone at Wimbledon for the final time, BBC Sport celebrates some of the iconic occasions featuring his unmistakeable voice - including World Cup, FA Cup and Wimbledon finals, Olympic golden moments and The Boat Race, to name but a few.
