Dean Cain, the actor best known for his role opposite Teri Hatcher in the TV series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, has been sworn in as a reserve police officer in the US state of Idaho, following in the footsteps of his friend, former CHiPs star Erik Estrada.
Fifty-one-year-old Cain is now in the employ of the Saint Anthony Police Department and celebrated his swearing-in ceremony on Tuesday. He will work with Estrada as part of the department's All About Kids community initiative to combat online predators and cyberbullying.

Idaho paper the Rexburg Standard Journal reported last month that Cain had contacted the Saint Anthony Police Department's former chief Terry Harris directly to ask about joining Estrada on the force.
"He will be eligible to participate in uniformed patrol with a full-time officer, patrolling the community and participating in specialised projects," Harris is quoted as telling the city council in May.
Prior to receiving his badge, Cain told US news website The Daily Caller: "I have always been a man of action. Real heroes don't wear capes.
"Real superheroes wear uniforms and badges and stethoscopes! Real superheroes are members of our military, law enforcement, and first responders."
