Exclusive Sarah Paulson credits Ryan Murphy for boosting her self-belief

Sarah Paulson told RTÉ Entertainment that she credits American Horror Story's Ryan Murphy with giving her a new belief that her opinions have value.

The actress, who has worked with director/writer/producer Murphy on a number of projects including American Horror Story, The People v O.J. Simpson, American Crime Story and Feud: Bette and Joan, said before she began collaborating with him, she had a pre-conceived notion that her "opinion was less valuable."

"It's something that was a pre-conceived notions that I've sort of I think realised that I grew up in an environment, not necessarily from my family but just believing that my opinion was less valuable," Paulson told RTÉ Entertainment.

"I wasn't actually getting direct communication that that was what I should be doing or thinking, but it wasn't until I started working with Ryan Murphy that I didn't feeling that way anymore. Because he paid attention to me for the first time, no one ever paid attention to me before... (laughs)"

Paulson was speaking to RTÉ Entertainment while promoting her new film Ocean's 8, and her co-star Mindy Kaling admitted to often being overlooked in her early career.

"I feel that being overlooked has been such a part of my career that it actually motivates me a lot, not so much anymore but when I was younger in my career," Kaling said.
