A new series based on comedy classic Four Weddings and a Funeral is coming to the small screen with The Mindy Project's Mindy Kaling at the helm.

Streaming service Hulu has given the green light for the series, which will be written and executive produced by Kaling and The Mindy Project showrunner Matt Warburton.

The gang from the 1994 comedy classic

The Hollywood Reporter says that Richard Curtis, the writer of the original film, is also on board as an executive producer.

As in the 1994 film, the new series will follow the intersecting lives of a group of friend at milestone events.

Mindy Kaling with the Ocean's 8 gang

It is not known if Kaling will play one of the characters in the series.

Following the end of The Mindy Project, Kaling will next be seen on the big screen opposite Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett and Anne Hathaway in the heist adventure Ocean's 8. It opens in cinemas on June 22.
