Former contestant Des Cahill had some words of warning for Jake Carter ahead of the semi-final following his top scoring performance with Karen Byrne on Dancing with the Stars last night.

Cahill, who was also partnered with Byrne on the first series of the show, took to Twitter to warn Carter about his "unreliable" dancing partner.

The RTÉ sports presenter jokingly wrote: "PRIVATE MESSAGE TO JAKE CARTER: Congrats on a brilliant night, Jake! You nailed it!

"But I have to warn you-last year when I got to Week 10 with @KarenDWTS - we were eliminated! So given I’m a great dancer.. we know who the unreliable one is"

Carter and Byrne danced a Charleston to the Disney classic Friend like Me from Aladdin and received a perfect 30 from judges Loraine Barry, Brian Redmond and Julian Benson

The pair closed the show with a bang with Benson declaring: "Jake Carter, that's how you do Broadway Week," before calling it a "full on production number from start to finish".

Redmond said it was "close to genius" from the duo, while Barry called it a "spectacular" performance and added Carter could receive his three wishes for it.

Cahill formed a close relationship with Byrne and has been supporting her new partnership with Carter since they first stepped onto the dancefloor in January.

Speaking about Byrne following his elimination from the show, Cahill said: "I think the relationship that formed between Karen and I."

Byrne added: "But the first time we met, within ten minutes in the studio, I said, 'He's right up my alley. Totally normal like me. No airs or graces'. I wouldn't want to share my experience with any of the rest of them. They're all lovely, but not Dessie."
