The 90th Academy Awards will be held in Hollywood tonight with strong Irish interest across a number of categories.

Actress Saoirse Ronan, director Martin McDonagh, actor Daniel Day-Lewis, designer Consolata Boyle and studio Cartoon Saloon have all been nominated for Oscars.

After battling through snow storms and flight delays, Director Nora Twomey and her Cartoon Saloon team have made it to Los Angeles on time for the ceremony.

They are nominated for their Animated feature ‘The Breadwinner’ which tells the story of a young girl in Taliban-controlled Afghanistan.

Martin McDonagh and Saoirse Ronan have already earned Golden Globes this year

Saoirse Ronan is nominated for best actress for her role in the coming of age drama ‘Lady Bird’.

London-Irish writer and director Martin McDonagh is nominated in the best original screenplay category for his movie, ‘Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri’, which is also up for a best picture award.

Wicklow-based Daniel Day-Lewis is nominated in the best actor category for ‘Phantom Thread’.

While Consolata Boyle is up for best costume design in the movie Victoria and Abdul.
