Fair City star Amy O'Dwyer has said she had mixed emotions about seeing her character, Hannah Mark, killed off in Wednesday night's shocking episode on RTÉ One.

Fans of the soap saw Hannah try to save Saoirse during the episode, only to be pushed down the stairs by hostage-taker Oakley, sustaining fatal injuries.

"I was excited as an actor to be going out in a dramatic way and looking forward to seeing how we were going to film it, but also sad for the character who ultimately is a victim in someone else's battle," said O'Dwyer.

"Hannah has been vulnerable from day one, but I'm glad she had a chance to prove her strength when she tried to save baby Saoirse."

The shocks continue in Thursday night's episode on RTÉ One

Reflecting on filming her death scene, O'Dwyer said: "It was actually my birthday that week of filming. So I celebrated with my family and friends, and the next day I was thrown down the stairs on set and murdered. It was pretty surreal.

"What was even weirder was that I came back to life the next day to film a scene out of sequence. So by the end of the week I felt I had been through the wars!"

O'Dwyer added that she will continue watching to see how the storyline plays out.

"I have to make sure that my death will be avenged, and that those responsible will be brought to justice! Poor Hannah."

There are more shocks in store in Fair City on RTÉ One on Thursday night at 8pm as the siege crisis continues.
