Cillian Murphy will reprise his Peaky Blinders role as crime boss Tommy Shelby when the period gangster drama returns to BBC Two - but fans will have to wait until 2019 for season five.

The announcement was made on Twitter on Wednesday night after the fourth season's finale on BBC Two.

A tweet from the show read: "#PeakyBlinders will return to @BBCTwo in 2019."

Warning: spoiler alert!

The finale saw Shelby become Labour MP for Birmingham South after a number of twists and plenty of bloodshed along the way.

Fans were left reeling as the story played out - and then had to deal with the shock that there would be no new episodes in 2018.
