Pru Leith has explained to the Ray D'Arcy Show that she was in a different time zone when she revealed the Great British Bake Off winner too early.
"I still feel absolutely mortified by it, it was awful I got in a muddle, I was miles away, there were lots of tweets built up, I got reception occasionally. I was in Bhutan and I suddenly managed to get online and I got this mass of emails.
One of them said "If you are going to congratulate the winners do it at 10.30", Oh my God, it was two days later, I thought heavens that was six hours ago and I congratulated Sophie.
The minute I had done it, I asked why didn’t anyone else congratulate her as I thought that, Emma Freud tweeted me "Eek, its tonight delete delete" and so then I tried to delete it,
‘The minute I’d done it, I thought why isn’t everyone else congratulating her?’ @PrueLeith on THAT tweet! Want to know how you end up announcing the winner of one of the biggest shows in the world hours before it airs... #raydarcyshow is live now! #GBBO #RayDarcy pic.twitter.com/2GwbeoTPU2

I was in such a panic I couldn’t work my phone. I rang my secretary and she said "don’t worry I have already done it." So its 89 seconds later, it was too late, it already had been retweeted by lots of people."
