Her debut 10-week season of Doctor Who will begin on BBC One in Autumn 2018.

Whittaker, whose credits include Trust Me, Venus and Good Vibrations, has described it as "more than an honour" to be playing the Doctor.

"It means remembering everyone I used to be," she told the BBC, "while stepping forward to embrace everything the Doctor stands for: hope."
