Robbie Williams has revealed that he cancelled gigs recently due to "very worrying" medical test results.
The singer announced in September that he was cancelling two gigs scheduled to take place in Russia.
Now, the former Take That star has released a video message to his fans in which he explains that serious health issues put him in hospital several weeks ago.
"I've been recovering from an illness now for the last five weeks," he says in the video. "Unfortunately, that illness kicked in just at the end of my tour, a tour which was going so well."
The musician continued: "The audiences were incredible, I was okay, the band was amazing, I was a soldier and I needed to finish that tour and I needed to go to Moscow and I needed to go to St Petersburg and then I got some test results.
"They were very worrying and I ended up in ICU, so I couldn't go. I haven't pulled out of a tour for bad health since 1998 so you know if I can't do it then there's something going on that I just can't do it."
Williams, who released his 11th album Heavy Entertainment Show late last year, went on to detail some health measures he has taken to help him recover from the unspecified illness.

"Now I am vegan, I do pilates every day", he said. "I do yoga every day and have a really big burger on a Sunday."
He added jokingly: "So I'm not fully that guy, I still burger, I have a cheat meal."
The singer closed his statement by saying: "I can't wait to get back to work. I'm feeling, not 100% but I'm nearly there. I know I'm going to be better than ever."
Williams is scheduled to resume his Heavy Entertainment Show Tour in Auckland, New Zealand on February 14 next year.
