Ben Affleck has apologised to former One Tree Hill star Hilarie Burton and said he "acted inappropriately" when they appeared together on MTV's show TRL in 2001.

In a Twitter post, Affleck wrote: "I acted inappropriately toward Ms. Burton and I sincerely apologize."

Affleck's apology came after a Twitter user had claimed that Affleck had groped Burton when she interviewed him on TRL.

"Everyone forgot though," they claimed.

"I didn't forget," Burton replied.

"Girls. I'm so impressed with you brave ones. I had to laugh back then so I wouldn't cry. Sending love," Burton also wrote.
