Game of Thrones star confirms show exit

After the events of the most recent episode of Game of Thrones, a cast member has confirmed that it will mark their last appearance on the hit fantasy drama.

Spoiler alert for those who have not yet seen season 7 episode 3; The Queen's Justice.

During The Queen's Justice we saw Ellaria Sand and her daughter Tyene brought to King's Landing as a gift to Cersei from Euron Greyjoy to allow her to seek revenge on them for killing her daughter Myrcella.

As payback, Cersei poisons Tyene in the same manner Ellaria poisoned Myrcella. Ellaria is then to watch her daughter die in front of her and watch her remains rot until she too dies, with viewers assuming that their deaths will take place off-screen.

Indira Varma as Ellaria Sand

Indira Varma (Ellaria Sand) has now confirmed that that will be her final scene on Game of Thrones.

"Obviously there's lots of trimming going on," Varma told Entertainment Weekly. "It's all coming to a head and you have to get rid of less important characters that the audience hasn't had the chance to invest in as much."

"So I was expecting it. I wasn't heartbroken. And I was like, 'As long as I die on screen...' and they (showrunners David Benioff and DB Weiss) were like 'Yeah!' But of course, I don't die on screen. I stay alive; I'm just not going to reappear. I think it's really clever," she added.

Lena Headey as Cersei

Speaking about the brutality and darkness of the scene, Varma said of reading the script, "It's really dark. What I love about this scene is you're reading it and from one sentence to the next you don't know what's going to happen – how Cersei is going to treat her victim.

"I just thought the delivery of that information was so clever. Especially since the kiss comes before the information."

Game of Thrones continues on Sky Atlantic, Mondays at 2am and 9pm.
