Channel 4's injury-plagued winter sports competition The Jump is taking a break for a year and will not be on television in 2018.

Since the reality show began in 2014, 34 celebrity participants have been injured, including Irish contestant Vogue Williams, who suffered a knee injury during Jump training in Austria last February.

In series three last year, former Holby City star Tina Hobley suffered shoulder, arm and knee injuries; Olympic gymnast Beth Tweddle broke two vertebrae in her neck and gold medal swimmer Rebecca Adlington dislocated her shoulder.

The Jump's absence from the Channel 4 schedule will coincide with the 2018 Winter Olympics, which take place in Pyeongchang, South Korea next February.

"The Jump has been a hugely successful brand for Channel 4 over the last four years," a Channel 4 spokesperson told the Press Association

"However, with such a huge amount of winter sport on screen at the start of 2018 we have decided to rest the show for the year."

Made in Chelsea star Spencer Matthews, who is currently dating Vogue Williams, won the fourth series of The Jump earlier this year.
