Coronation Street star Shayne Ward welcomed his first child with partner, former Hollyoaks actress Sophie Austin, six months ago and he has now revealed that he feels like he was "born to be a dad".

The acting couple revealed the birth of daughter Willow-May in December of last year, declaring that they were "completely besotted".

Ward, who plays Aidan Connor in Corrie, said of becoming a father: "It was my sole purpose. I think everything else is a hobby. People could say I was born to sing, but I think I was always born to be a dad.

"She's wonderful, Willow May, she's a beautiful girl, she's just over 6 months. She's on the rapid spins now, she's just trying to crawl, but I absolutely love it, she's wonderful."

Ward and Austin are so in love with their newborn daughter that they're already talking about adding to their brood.

He told the Daily Mirror: "It's funny, every time Sophie reads an interview and I've been asked a question about kids, I'm always giving different numbers on how many kids I want! She's like, 'How many bloody kids do you want?!'

"I always joke and say seven, because I'm one of seven. For me and her, if we're blessed to have another two or three, that'd be great."

Austin recently took to Instagram to pay tribute to Ward and his parenting skills, saying he is "the most amazing father".

She wrote: "Thank you for being the most amazing father to our little girl, from the moment she entered this world you held her close and have never let her go, you protect her and I know everything you do is for her.

"She never stops laughing and that's down to you! The love between you two melts my heart and I'm so proud of you love always me and willow-may."

The 2005 X Factor winner and actress began dating in March 2016, several months after Austin split from her husband Graeme Rooney.
