Doctor Strange has become Marvel's biggest ever solo character movie after passing the $600 million mark at the box office worldwide.
Benedict Cumberbatch beat Jared Leto, Joaquin Phoenix and Ryan Gosling to land the title role in the superhero movie, which has now surpassed 2008's Iron Man to become the studio's highest-grossing solo character debut film.
Robert Downey Jr's much-loved debut outing as Iron Man earned $585 million at the box office, while Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange has raked in $616 million worldwide so far.
Paul Rudd's 2015 outing Ant Man is third on the list with $518 million, while 2011's Thor received $449 million, followed by Captain America's $371 million.
Doctor Strange tells the story of former neurosurgeon Stephen Strange who has his livelihood snatched from him after a car accident cripples his hands.
He ventures on a journey East in search of a miracle cure, where he stumbles upon a hidden world of magic.
The movie, which also starred Tilda Swinton as the Ancient One, a Celtic mystic who serves as mentor to Cumberbatch's character alongside Chiwetel Ejiofor and Rachel McAdams, is now certain to have a sequel.
No release date has yet been set but it is expected to appear in the forthcoming Avengers: Infinity War in 2018.
