J.J. Abrams lead the tributes to late Star Trek star Anton Yelchin at the premiere of Star Trek Beyond on the opening night of San Diego Comic-Con.
Yelchin played the character of Chekov in the three most recent Star Trek films, the first two of which were directed by Abrams, with him serving as producer on Beyond.
"As wonderful as this is to be here with all of you and to be celebrating the 50th anniversary of Star Trek, there is something wrong tonight," Abrams told the audience.
"There is something missing tonight, there is someone missing tonight."
Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, Zachary Quinto, Chris Pine, Simon Pegg, Idris Elba, John Cho, and Sofia Boutella, Lindsey Weber and J.J. Abrams lead a moment of silence
"Anton Yelchin should be here," Abrams continued. "Anton's parents are here, Irina and Victor. We love their son and if I could ask everyone to have a moment of silence for our dear friend, Anton."
On the red carpet, cast and crew were seen wearing black Star Trek command lapel pins.

Zachary Quinto, who plays Spock in the rebooted franchise, also took a moment to remember original Spock actor Leonard Nimoy, who died last year.
"I just want to take a moment to honour him, to acknowledge him, to celebrate him and to love him. We all carry him with us in our heart tonight," Quinto said.
