Hozier: fame isn't everything for the Wicklow man

Hozier has opened up about his thoughts on fame saying he thinks it is a cultivated myth and "all nonsense."

The 26-year-old Wicklow man – real name Andrew Hozier-Byrne – is currently enjoying some downtime after a hectic two years of touring since the release of his self-titled debut album.

Speaking about the idea of using his newfound fame as inspiration, Hozier was quick to dismiss the idea as he finds the construct of fame and success nonsensical.

"I think you have to be careful about what you are drawing from. I don't worry about it so much in that this [fame] is a myth," he said in an interview with Idolator.

"The myth of fame and the myth of success is cultivated because it is monetisable and it is profitable. We sell the myth of fame and myth of success in music, we sell it in videos, but it's f***ing b*****ks. It's all nonsense."

Hozier added that he hasn't allowed fame to change his perspective on life saying, "The thing is, when you think you've arrived at the point that you've been striving to get to, you f***ing have to bring yourself with you.

"Much to my disappointment, I still am myself. I still view the world with the same eyes that I did when I did the first album."

The Irish musician's new track Better Love features as the theme song for the Alexander Skarsgard and Margot Robbie-starring The Legend of Tarzan, and he told us that it is the last we'll be hearing from him for a while as he sets about working on his next release.

"I'm going to take some time off so this is the last thing I'm going to be putting my name to for a little while," Hozier told RTÉ TEN. "I'm going to disappear for a while and work on the next album, in a similar way to how I worked the first time round, go to a very quiet space and just see how the demos take shape."
