Final preparations are under way on the Dingle Peninsula for the filming of Star Wars: Episode VIII.

A replica of Sceilig Mhichíl's sixth-century monastery has been constructed on Ceann Sibéal - a dramatic cliff-top location 700ft above the sea.

The scenes filmed on Sceilig Mhichíl for last year's Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens were hailed as the most spectacular in the blockbuster.

The Star Wars: Episode VIII cast and crew have been making their way to the West Kerry Gaeltacht following their arrival at Cork Airport on Monday afternoon. It is understood that cast, crew and support staff will number up to 350 people.

With construction taking place over the past two months, it is understood that Disney Lucasfilm will shoot some key scenes for Star Wars: Episode VIII on the Ceann Sibéal set. Flight restrictions, which include the use of drones, are currently being enforced by the Irish Aviation Authority over Ceann Sibéal. They will remain in place until May 26.
