Smoochy urban cool has proved no match for a good old bit of country pop - Nathan Carter has outsold Drake nearly two to one and hit the top spot on the new Irish album chart.
26-year-old Carter's latest album Stayin' Up All Night has beaten Drake's new release, Views, to the top and this is the Liverpool-born, Donegal-raised singer's third album to fly to the top in Ireland. Last May, his album Beautiful Life spent weeks at No 1 and this week Beautiful Life also leaps an impressive 17 places to make it to No 5 on the Irish album chart.
On receiving the news, Carter said: “I’m absolutely delighted and very proud that my album has gone straight to Number 1. I have co-written most of the songs on this album and I think it’s my best one so far which makes it’s extra special that it’s gone straight to the top of the charts. A massive ‘Thank You’ to all my fans for making this possible.”
However, Drake does have the No 1 single this week with One Dance.
