Star Wars: The Force Awakens star Adam Driver has teased the "really great" script for the next instalment of the series while commending director Rian Johnson for joining a franchise that is already so established.

The actor, who plays Kylo Ren in the series, is looking forward to getting back on set to film Episode VIII because he is excited to work with Johnson, and he spoke about the difference between the director and The Force Awakens' helmer JJ Abrams.

"Their temperaments are different. I feel like there was so many moving pieces in the first one – just trying to solve it and set the vocabulary for what it was," Driver said in an Entertainment Weekly Q&A session.

"There's a lot of that anxiety gone, because people have developed a language... I can't wait to get on set, just because [Rian Johnson] is so unassuming and intelligent and approachable. They script they've come up with is really great," he added.

When asked about spoilers for the next movie, Driver joked that "there's still a war, they're not at peace yet".

Star Wars Episode VIII is slated for release on December 15, 2017.
