Michael Fassbender has said he had reservations about portraying late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs in the Oscar-tipped film of the same name.

Fassbender is one of the frontrunners for the Best Actor Oscar for his performance in the Danny Boyle-directed drama, but speaking at the film's European Premiere at the London Film Festival on Sunday he said he had "hesitations" about signing up because of what Jobs' family might think.

"I was worried about how their late father, husband and friend will be portrayed and that weighed on my conscience," he said.

"There was a responsibility for sure. But I have to get on with my job. This wasn't a biopic; it was a dramatisation so all the clues I needed were in the script."

"I approached it with utmost respect for Jobs and his family... If they do see it, I hope they are not hurt by it because that's not my intention," he added.

Based on Walter Isaacson's biography of the same name, Steve Jobs is split into three lengthy scenes and is set backstage at three Apple product launches, culminating with the launch of the iMac in 1998.

Kate Winslet stars as former Macintosh marketing chief Joanna Hoffman; Seth Rogen plays Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak and Jeff Daniels plays former Apple CEO John Sculley.

The film opens in Irish cinemas on Friday November 13. Watch out for an interview with Fassbender's co-star Kate Winslet coming soon on TEN
