US rapper 50 Cent has filed for bankruptcy with reported debts of up to £32m (€29m) just a day after being ordered by judges to pay a woman $5 million for posting her sex tape online without her permission.

The Wall Street Journal reports that the rapper, real name Curtis Jackson, filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in a court in Hartford, Connecticut.

Jackson reported assets and debts both in the range of $10 to 50m in the US Bankruptcy Court.

The filing comes following the news that Jackson was ordered to pay $5 million to the ex-girlfriend of fellow rapper and rival Rick Ross after Jackson leaked a sex tape featuring the woman.

The 13-minute video of Lastonia Leviston includes cuts to 50 Cent wearing a wig and in character as Pimpin' Curly. He also provides explicit commentary.

"This was something done to me. I didn't have a choice. I would never, ever do this to myself," Leviston said about the leaking of the tape.

50 Cent and Ross have been feuding for years, and 50 Cent claimed he was "joking" when he called Leviston a "porn star".

In response to the verdict, attorney William A Brewer III says 50 Cent and his legal team are "disappointed in the verdict but very appreciative of the service of the jury and the court".
