Ben Affleck will star in, direct and co-write a solo Batman film with DC Comics.

The Oscar-winning director will play the caped crusader for the first time in the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice film, opposite Henry Cavill, which hits cinemas in March 2016.

It has now been reported by Hollywood insider website Deadline that Affleck is teaming up with Geoff Johns (DC Comics' chief creative officer) to co-write a script for a standalone film based on Bruce Wayne and his Batman alter-ego, before then donning his costume once again to lead the cast while simultaneously moving behind the camera to the director's chair.

A release date has not yet been announced but it is thought that production will begin after Affleck completes filming on his long awaited adaptation of Dennis Lehane's novel Live By Night.
