Dexter star Michael C Hall is to play the lead in Lazarus, the new play written by David Bowie and Irish writer Enda Walsh, which is based on the classic sci-fi book The Man Who Fell to Earth and will be staged in New York.
Bowie famously played the lead character, Thomas Newton, in Nicolas Roeg's 1976 film version of Walter Tevis' book, which told the story of an alien's experiences when he crash-lands on Earth.
Billboard.com says it is unclear whether the production will be a musical or a play with songs, but Bowie has composed new material and it will also feature new arrangements of previously recorded tracks.
Previews at the off-Broadway New York Theatre Workshop begin on November 18 and opening night is December 7.
