Roddy Doyle's book Dead Man Talking is among the titles being sent to UK prisons to encourage inmates to read more.
The Herald reports that the novel, which is about two feuding friends who make up in ghostly circumstances, is on a list of novels which also includes a book about a man's escape from a prison camp.
The literacy drive is part of World Book Day on April 23 and organisers are also sending books to schools, colleges and hospitals.
Escape From Camp-14 by American journalist Blaine Harden tells the true story of Shin Dong-hyuk who was born into a North Korean political prison and eventually escaped to China before settling in the United States.
Karl Pilkington's The Moaning Of Life and Prime Suspect by Lynda La Plante are also on the list.
