In this week’s episode of The Zoo Ken Mackey puts his 20 years of experience working with rhinos to the ultimate test during the trip of a lifetime and there is baby joy on the African plains.
Ken leaves Phoenix Park and travels some 12,500 kilometres away to the Savé Valley Conservancy in Zimbabwe, home to the Lowveld Rhino Trust, a project supported by Dublin Zoo.
He sees first-hand the battle to save the black and southern white rhino from poachers who kill these endangered animals in order to sell their valuable horn.
Also on this week's show there is an unexpected arrival on the African plains when a female zebra gives birth, the first zebra foal at Dublin Zoo in 20 years.
You can catch the show on Thursday at 7pm on RTÉ One.
