Mark Wahlberg has signed up to produce a film about the Boston Marathon bombing in April 2013 called Patriots' Day.

According to Deadline, Wahlberg is also hoping to play Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis, who led the manhunt for the terrorists who carried out the attacks.

The CBS Films production is one of two feature films in development about the 2013 attacks which killed three people and injured over 260 others.

Wahlberg's film will tell Davis' first-hand account of how the incident unfolded with research and footage from TV news magazine 60 Minutes.

CBS Films President Terry Press said: "There is nothing more compelling than a real story populated by real heroes.

"The team that we have assembled for this project is determined to give audiences a very personal look at what occurred during the days when the eyes of the world were on the city of Boston and how a group of contemporary patriots faced this crisis."

A Boston Marathon bombing film is also in development at Fox, based on the book Boston Strong by Casey Sherman and Dave Wedge.
