US cable network AMC has given a two-series commitment to its upcoming Walking Dead prequel.
Indiewire.com reports that the first season is due in late summer and will consist of six episodes, just as The Walking Dead did when it premiered.
The second season will be screened in 2016.
The cast of the new series includes Cliff Curtis, Kim Dickens, Frank Dillane and Alycia Debnam Carey. There is speculation that the series will be set in Los Angeles at the start of the zombie apocalypse.
The creator of The Walking Dead comic series, Robert Kirkman, has written the pilot with Sons of Anarchy's Dave Erickson and both will serve as executive producers, with Erickson also working as the showrunner.
