The release date for In the Heart of the Sea, the adventure epic which includes Irish actors Brendan Gleeson, Sam Keeley and Cillian Murphy among its cast, has been put back from March to December so that it will be prominent during Oscars season.
Deadline.com says the Ron Howard-directed film had been scheduled to open on Friday March 13 but will now open on Friday December 11.
Also starring Chris Hemsworth, Benjamin Walker, Ben Whishaw and Tom Holland, In the Heart of the Sea is based on Nathaniel Philbrick's best-selling book of the same name.
It tells the true story of the Essex, a whaling ship which was attacked by a whale and became the inspiration for Herman Melville's novel Moby Dick.
Studio Warner Bros has said the film "reveals the encounter's harrowing aftermath, as the ship's surviving crew is pushed to their limits and forced to do the unthinkable to stay alive".
