George Clooney and Foxcatcher director Bennett Miller are teaming up to produce the new drama series The Studio.

According to Deadline, US network Showtime is developing the series from a pilot written by Peter Tolan.

The Studio is set in the early 1990s and tells the story of two men running a movie studio as conglomerates begin buying up the industry.

The executives, who are described as "best friends", will do anything to remain in power and will battle anyone who gets in their way - including each other.

Scriptwriter Tolan was the head writer on The Larry Sanders Show and also wrote the films Just Like Heaven and Analyze This.

Miller is due to direct the pilot episode.
