RTÉ GAA Correspondent Marty Morrissey has been selected as the Clare Person of the Year for 2015 for his services to sport and to Gaelic games in particular.
The award, which is made annually by the Clare Association Dublin, will be presented to Marty on January 31 next year.
Speaking directly to RTÉ TEN from his native parish of Kilmurry Ibrickane, Marty said: "I am chuffed and honoured and this came out of the blue and it is really special. The only thing I've ever won in my life before this was an Under 14s Champion Medal so The Clare Person of The Year award will be treasured."
In his youth, Marty was a dual player, playing hurling with both Ballyea GAA and Clonboy GAA, and football with Kilmurry Ibrickane GAA and Clare GAA.
Previous winners of The Clare Person of the Year have included President Patrick Hillery, concertina player Chris Droney, and missionary nun Sr Maura O’Donoghue.
Marty has worked for RTÉ Sport since 1994. He is currently RTÉ’s GAA News Correspondent and also commentates on GAA matches across both RTÉ Television and RTÉ Radio.
