Michelle Rodriguez has said she plans to take some time for herself after enduring "so much heartbreak last year".

The star, who was linked to model Cara Delevingne and actor Zac Efron earlier this year, also lost her Fast and Furious co-star Paul Walker in a tragic car accident.

Speaking to Standard.co.uk the star said, "This year has been too much and I need some time out. I’ve been working hard and now I want time off. That’s what I do. Work hard, play hard. I don’t think that’s much to ask or want.

"I don’t have anything in the pipeline at the moment. I’m free. I had so much heartbreak last year that I am taking a year off to do something different, like write."

She added, "I don’t know what yet — maybe movie scripts or TV shows but something creative as that’s my passion. I’ve wanted to do it for a while and now would be great. Hopefully in a couple of years it will pay off and you’ll see my work on the big screen or the TV. That would be f***ing awesome man. How cool would it be? Hopefully I will see the results and my career will progress in a different way."
