Parents Sita and Kumar and the staff at Dublin Zoo are celebrating the birth of a female Asian lion cub.

The cub was born on August 11 and is the half-sister of Kuno, who was born to Zuri and Kumar on May 31 this year.

Team leader Ciarán McMahon said: "It is wonderful to be welcoming a second Asian lion cub to Dublin Zoo so soon after the birth of Kuno."

He continued: "These lions are endangered and it is of great conservation importance that zoos maintain a viable population of Asian lions.

"The female cub is settling in very well. At two-months-old she now weighs an estimated 6kg and has developed a strong bond with mum Sita."

He added: "We are excited to see how the relationship between the female cub and Kuno develops as they grow and mature together."

Dublin Zoo wants the public to suggest a name for the new arrival, based on her Asian origin, at: www.facebook.com/dublinzoo.
