O'Porter and O'Dowd - In Roscommon for civic ceremony

With Chris O'Dowd set to receive the Freedom of Roscommon in Boyle tonight, Wednesday October 22, his father, Seán O'Dowd, has told RTÉ's Morning Ireland that his son and daughter-in-law Dawn O'Porter's first child is due "towards the end of January".

Speaking to Rachael English on the show, Seán O'Dowd said: "Dawn is in the very best of form. We're really looking forward to that."

He continued: "It'll be our 10th grandchild. It'll be Chris' first child and Dawn's first child, and please God, towards the end of January I'll be a grandfather for the 10th time."

On the subject of the Freedom of Roscommon ceremony on Wednesday night, O'Dowd said: "There's a palpable feel of good factor here, and it's lovely to finish your programme too with a good news story!"

Asked whether Hollywood success and the acclaim for Chris O'Dowd's Roscommon-shot Sky1 series Moone Boy might go to his son's head, Sean O'Dowd laughed and replied: "Not a chance, Rachael. He's a very firmly grounded 35-year-old at this stage! What you see is what you get with Chris.

"We're so delighted and happy that Roscommon County Council are coming on [board] with tonight's ceremony."

He added: "We're so delighted life has gone well for him and he's been lucky in a very crowded field. His play there, which went down so well on Broadway, Of Mice and Men, it has actually been chosen to be the first Broadway play filmed and it'll be shown in cinemas, including our local one, Carrick-on-Shannon, on November 6.

"It's really great news and a great recognition for Ireland and Boyle and Chris, in particular."
